The Poor Man’s Warbird, Honoring the L-birds. A group of pilots dedicated to honoring and keeping alive the memory of the L-birds and their pilots was formed in 1981. Calling themselves the Alamo Liaison Squadron, their purpose is to purchase, restore, fly, and maintain liaison airplanes. Their operations are based at Cannon Field, a 2,900-foot grass strip south of San Antonio, Texas.
